Description

American Society of Radiologic Technologists

Radiologic technologists are the medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations and administer radiation therapy treatments. They are educated in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, radiation protection and basic patient care. They may specialize in a specific imaging technique, such as bone densitometry, cardiovascular-interventional radiography, computed tomography, mammography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, quality management, sonography or general radiography. The radiologic technologists who specialize in radiation therapy, which is the delivery of high doses of radiation to treat cancer and other diseases, are radiation therapists and medical dosimetrists.

The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists

ARRT is the world's largest credentialing organization that seeks to ensure high quality patient care in radiologic technology. We test and certify technologists and administer continuing education and ethics requirements for their annual registration.

American College of Radiology

The 32,000 members of the American College of Radiology include radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, interventional radiologists and nuclear medicine physicians. For over three quarters of a century, the ACR has devoted its resources to making imaging safe, effective and accessible to those who need it.

The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography

The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography® (ARDMS®), incorporated in June 1975, is an independent, nonprofit organization that administers examinations and awards credentials in the areas of diagnostic medical sonography, diagnostic cardiac sonography, vascular interpretation and vascular technology.

The Joint Commission

An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission accredits and certifies more than 16,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards.

Society for Magnetic Resonance Technology

The Section for Magnetic Resonance Technologists (SMRT) was founded to provide a forum for education, information, and research in the field of magnetic resonance. The primary objective of the SMRT is to advance the education and training for MRI/S technologists worldwide. The SMRT is committed to promoting the communication and dissemination of information regarding current and emerging technological advances to its members.

Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography

The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography was founded in 1970 to promote, advance, and educate its members and the medical community in the science of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Association of Vascular and Interventional Radiographers

The Association of Vascular and Interventional Radiographers (AVIR) is made up of interventional technologists, interventional radiology nurses, cardiovascular technologists, radiology physician assistants (RPA), vendor representatives, and other associated professionals. As an AVIR member you can keep current of new licensing requirements. You can also keep up-to-date on procedures, JCAHO requirements, interventional products, and network with other interventional technologists. For more information and a membership application be sure to visit the membership page.

Society of Interventional Radiology

The Society of Interventional Radiology is a national organization of physicians, scientists and allied health professionals dedicated to improving public health through disease management and minimally invasive, image-guided therapeutic interventions.

North Carolina Dept. of Radiation and Natural Resources

North Carolina General Statute in section 104-E are the enabling legislation for the mission and duties of the Radiation Protection Section (RPS).  Under these statutes, RPS administers the following programs in order to provide protection from the harmful effects of radiation for workers and the public: a Radon monitoring, mitigation and education program; an emergency response program for nuclear facilities; an environmental monitoring program; a radioactive material licensing, compliance and education program; a low level radioactive waste management oversight program; a progressive Homeland Security initiative; an effective radioactive material emergency response program; an X-ray registration, compliance and education program; a mammography registration, compliance and education program; a tanning registration, compliance and education program; an information resource location for other sources of non-ionizing radiation; and a comprehensive enforcement program.

Food and Drug Administration - Mammography

FDA is an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services and consists of centers and offices, which are listed in menu at left. The FDA is responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation’s food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation.

The American College of Radiology

The FDA has designated the American College of Radiology (ACR) as an accrediting body for both screen-film and full-field digital mammography units. This is the country's oldest and largest accrediting body for mammography.
