College of Leadership Excellence

The mission of the UNCH College of Leadership Excellence is to provide a consistent structure to create diverse, effective and strategic learning opportunities for leadership development and growth. It is the vision of the college to develop competent, compassionate leaders that exemplify excellence in "leading, teaching, caring.” The College of Leadership Excellence supports the educational growth of all leaders in the organization. Leadership curriculum is organized into four Academies to meet the unique needs of emerging leaders, new leaders, operational leaders and strategic leaders.

Emerging Leader Academy
The Emerging Leader Academy is for identified and interested individuals who are exhibiting traits of leadership. This academy develops skills needed for success in current roles, such as lead tech, charge nurse or team leader as well as preparing one for roles of greater responsibility.
New Leader Academy
The New Leader Academy is for those who are hired from within or from outside the organization into a leadership roles. Generally, these roles are formal supervisory or managerial positions.
Operational Leader Academy
The Operational Leader Academy is designed for seasoned, mid-level UNC Health Care leaders who are high achievers. This intensive and enriching year-long program was created to increase the leader’s satisfaction with career and leadership development opportunities in support of our strategic business needs. Leaders will also develop the capacity to take on new leadership challenges that will have a positive impact on operations. Twenty-four leaders will be selected to attend at this time. Applicants will be selected by the co-chairs of the College of Leadership Excellence.
Strategic Leader Academy
Strategic Leader Academy provides further development for experienced leaders at UNCH. Generally, these individuals are in director and executive leadership positions who are responsible for a broader scope of operations and initiatives with future strategic impact. These offerings might supplement current skills or provide new knowledge in order provide the individual with the optimal skills needed for individual and organizational success.
Leadership Knowledge Center
The Leadership Knowledge Center is a resource for a wide-range of just-in-time learning assets that include Harvard Business Review articles, quick tips, job aids, simulations, online courses, podcasts, vodcasts and books in the LMS online bookstore. Each week a different leadership topic (e.g., Moving from Management to Leadership, Business Execution, the Workforce Generation, and Giving Effective Feedback to name a few) is highlighted. Leadership Podcasts
This page provides access to UNCH leadership created podcasts and podcasts from other leadership sources.
Leadership Book Club
Each quarter a senior leader at UNC Health Care will sponsor a discussion on a relevant book, journal or article. These discussions are meant to bring a new level of awareness or thinking on leadership concepts. The Leader Book Club is open to all leaders. The Leadership Channel
The Leadership Channel is a resource on LMS providing access to podcasts, live events, and books by renowned Leaders.
